Because I have been given to understand that four-page, navel-gazing posts on charitable giving are "super boring," I will endeavor to refrain in future. Not that I'm judging anyone who provides me this valuable feedback. (I'm totally judging you, Ace.)
For the rest of the month, I promise: more pictures! Less content!
Is anybody else finding this NaBloPoMo thing exhausting? Not the writing. It's the reading. I can't keep up, man. My home life is suffering.
So I guess I can go the route of starting a weekly element to take at least one day out of the mix. For me, because I won't have to think of anything to say, and for you, because it's going to be totally uninteresting so you can skip it.
300 posts! I'm going to try to do the 300 workout once a week until I'm awesome. I can't imagine what I'll possibly have to say.
This, the first week, I have two things.
1. O. M. G. I have been so incredibly sore all weekend. It's not like I did the whole workout. I mean, I did 300 reps, but not at the manly weights they prescribe. I assume it's just a matter of going from NO upper body anything to a whole bunch of anything, but - phew. Imonna be so ripped, y'all. Maybe I'll keep this workout up for 50 reps. Maybe that will be my goal. Sheesh, that's a year if I'm consistent. Why not go for 300?
2. Ace asked about all the cute girls at the gym. ?? I mentioned I saw Chad his brother, but didn't notice the cuteness of the girls. Ace said Chad goes on Friday nights because that's when the girl watching is best. Again, I say to you: ?? Is he going to the same 24 Hour I'm going to? (Maybe when he says "cute girls," what he really means is "super pumped, muscle shirt- and mullet-wearing dudes.)
So what did I actually do?
25 pullups with 110 lbs assistance. Yeah, I know. I was pacing myself. (Supposed to be unassisted.)
50 pushups in 5 sets. Really hard.
50 box jumps - 1 foot step. They had a 2-foot step (like you're supposed to use), and I seriously wouldn't know how I would get up there, without one of these.
50 dead lifts. Supposed to be 135 lbs. I used an empty bar. I don't know how much it weighs. Ace said he thinks it's 45. I think it's less.
50 "floor wipers." Also supposed to be with 135 lbs, but I used the same empty bar. I've never seen this exercise before and wasn't convinced it would really do anything, but I've been appropriately sore in the tummy region. I also have bruises on my shins from whacking the bar. For SPARTA!
50 clean and press for each hand with a 35 lb kettlebell is the prescription; I did 25 with a 5 lb weight and 25 with a 10 lb weight on each side. I wonder whether it's supposed to be 25 for each side, because I think otherwise this adds up to The 350 Workout. And man, imagine what King Leonides could have done with 50 more soldiers...
25 more pullups with 100 lb assistance.
The whole thing took me a good 45 minutes, but my various stations were spread among several rooms at the gym. To the extent I've lifted weights in the past, I'll do 12 reps then jump to the next thing and keep moving. Trying to do 50 in a row was much harder. And I don't see why it would be any more effective. Anyway, for a once a week thing I'm not complaining. At least it'll get me out of the house.
